May Monthly Challenge

'Little House' Collage

This month’s Art Bead Scene Challenge was based on the painting ‘Capriccio Padovano’ 1741 by Bernardo Bellatto.

Well I must have looked at this painting at least 50 times over the past few days, but could I be inspired? Sadly no, not at all. I could see the beauty in this incredible work of art, but just couldn’t fathom how to turn it into a wearable piece of jewellery.

But there was a little niggle in me that said ‘keep trying’, so I did. I broke the painting down into simple elements like colours, shapes and objects, and then began to see how it could work. I mixed some colours together and created the beads in my necklace, then teamed them with some beautiful glass beads from Smitten Beads.

I think my finished piece probably resembles a simple, child-like depiction of the painting (my blue ‘sky’ bead has some white fluffy clouds on it, you can’t see them very well in the photo)…I’m not sure whether Bernardo Bellatto would be too impressed, but I’m pleased with it anyway. And above all I was glad I listened to my niggle and persevered, because I really enjoyed the challenge!

  1. This is so clever Karen, well done for persevering, the colours are spot on. You constantly amaze me with your attention to detail , patience and clever use of colour. I wish I had that kind of concentration level. xx

  2. Adore how art is inspiring you. A little voice inside me started to scream Paul Klee. Think you might enjoy his works inspired by his Tunis trip. Go on have a google.
